Summer Reading & a Giveaway

Summer Reading

What is summer reading?

Each summer, NBS middle and high schoolers earn AR points toward their English grades for the coming school year. While these months away from formalized education provide a much needed respite, continuing to read during the summer maintains all their hard earned education from the school year. All of our students are encouraged to engage in summer reading. However, only 7th-12th graders need to take AR tests during the summer and earn AR points. These students are required to earn 20 points by August 7. Whether earned through reading one book or a dozen, the hope is that the students will find more stories to enjoy while also holding on to all that they have already learned.

For our Elementary students, no summer AR points are required, but we do encourage constant reading. In fact, parents and children reading together is a great way to build a lasting bond in addition to the great ability that it increases. Plus, it helps parents see their student’s strengths and weaknesses.

Where to get books?

Our library has a plethora of books to choose from, and middle and high schoolers can choose from the many shelved tomes. The library’s catalog can be found on our website, and as long as the book is available here, you may borrow it from any library. Elementary students who aren’t intending to test on their books are encouraged to borrow books from our library and the local public libraries.

Once middle and high schoolers are ready to test on their selected books, they can come by the NBS office during our open hours. Our summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 AM – 3:30 PM. The library is open during the same hours.

In CORE Deception, a young man faces a government intent on crushing all opposition against it. When the government singles out his sister, he enlists a friend’s help to protect his sister. Find out what happens in CORE Deception.
